Rags to Riches

Almost 7 months to the day from arriving in foster care as a skinny, sickly, RMSF+, Heartworm+ Pointer who was left for dead with his tail severed in a ditch in southern Illinois. Thanks to Candy for pulling him out of death row in the shelter he wound up at and thanks to the Selep family for offering to foster him when he was so sick. Abe struggled for months--but all the hard work has paid off :) He's Chris' squishy boy!

Abe and Chris got their first Hunt test Q!!!Abe has come a long way since his humble beginnings 7 mos ago.

He went from a sickly dog to a winner. Not only did his foster family see something in the original picture that cried for HELP, but the volunteers at the County pound. There was something in his eyes, that just told you that he wanted to show anyone, that he was worth a second chance and had plenty of love to give to just the right family. That family turned out to be his foster family who fell in love with him and never wanted to let him go.

His past is so common among the dogs that cross our path in rescue. We, along with the compassion of volunteers at the shelters, try to help as many dogs in need as physically possible. Some my think it's suppose to be 'financially' possible, but we think dollars AFTER the HELP. It all has a way of working itself out, if you don't think too much about it, doesn't it?

After Abe's big accomplishment, here is what the volunteer had to say when the good news was shared. "this is a wonderful gift and makes all the worry and work so accepted and worthwhile! don't often get updates or feedback after our rescue animals ride off in the morning sun on the transports, but to get these kind of happy BEGINNINGS, updates, just means more than I can say. From the dismal beginning, being impounded in January just before horrific ice storm at Williamson County Animal Control, to these September photos, is a rags to riches story for your posterity and website!! I want to also thank ROYA NEWMAN, who is local rescuer and friend, and operates a kennel and boarding facility. She was crucial to ABE rescue, because she FREE boarded him for me during the ice storm, before he went to IBR, and helped me greatly, I hurt my leg in the ice storm and couldn't properly take care of ABE. ROYA, thanks again and see what he looks like TODAY !!!!!!

I am going to do a "before" and "after" photo for the ANIMAL CONTROL guys, so they can see what can be accomplished when people ADOPT animals and don't just use them for hunting and sporting purposes then discard them like trash....

Thanks again from the heart for all you did for ABE, in all aspects and medical costs $$$. Give ABE a pat on the head from me."

King for a day!

I am doing great in my home and I love to learn new tricks like "sit" and "stay". I even do this trick when food is around and that is sometimes hard for me, since I love to eat.

King Abe!! I am very rarely caught without my royal blanket and wearing it is the "bomb"!

I love to lounge on the sofa and "chill".

I am a wonderful companion and I love to watch TV with mom and sis.

I've Been Given A Second Chance

I am now in Illinois Birddog's foster care. I'm getting my Heartworm treatment at my foster home. I have a fur sister and 2 cats to keep me company. I have a few bad habits, but my family is very patient with me and treats me like a King. I think I have a girlfriend, Cassie and I really enjoy my play time with her. We steal toys and bones from each other and then I will try to fill my crate with all the treasures that I can find. Foster mom says I'm so sweet and loves attention and cuddle time. You can never get enough cuddle time.
